Halloween Party Games

So you want to have a Halloween party, but are unsure how to keep the kids entertained while they are there. After all, there is only so much pizza and candy that a kid can take! If you are tired of the traditional games, like costume contests and bobbing for apples, here are a couple of alternatives that can help keep everyone entertained.

Spooky Storytelling

On a creepy night like Halloween, telling spooky stories can help set the mood. Before the party, you will want to take a small deck of index cards and write story-starting phrases. You will want at least one per party goer, and more if you want the game to continue longer. Keep them appropriate to your party's age group, but you can include things like:

It was a dark and stormy night...

The door creaked open and we saw...

The witch cackled over her cauldron, stirring what looked like...

I peaked under the bed and saw...

There was a knocking at the window and...

I heard a horrible scream and I knew...

To play the game, sit everyone in a circle and dim the lights. Consider having a flashlight to pass to the person whose turn it is to tell the tale. Have everyone pick a card, and then someone starts the story. Set a timer for one or two minutes, and that person has to start the story with the phrase on their card. When the timer goes off, the flashlight gets passed to the next person, who then continues the tale with the phrase on their card. This continues at least until everyone has a turn, or longer if you have the time.

Mummy Memory

Get a large serving tray and fill it with small Halloween goodies. Toy spiders and bugs, stickers, pumpkins, and other Halloween party favors can be a good way to go (plus, you can recycle these items into the goodie bags to go home when you are done). Cover the tray with a cloth, and give everyone a piece of paper and a pencil. Remove the cloth, giving everyone a minute or two to study the tray, and then recover. Everyone should then try to write down everything that they remembered, with the person remembering the most winning a prize.

Terror Tag

You need a larger, empty room for this game. Before the game starts, secretly assign each person to be a ghost or a mortal. An easy way to do this is to give each person a slip of paper with their designation on it – but make sure they know it is to be a secret! You should always have a much higher ratio of mortals to ghosts, so most of the time one or two ghosts will be plenty. Then, turn down the lights so that it is dark in the room (or you could blindfold players). Have them go about the room, shaking hands with other players, and whispering to them if they are ghost or mortal. If you shake hands with a ghost, you must freeze in terror. This continues until there are only ghosts left.

Halloween party games can be fun to play and help pass the time. If you need more ideas, consider giving any of your regular party favors a Halloween twist and using them.

Halloween Meal Planning

So you've decked the house out in creepy accessories, and picked out the perfect costume. The candy is ready to go for the trick-or-treaters and the music for your Halloween party is downloading into your MP3 player. What else could you possibly do for the holiday? Why not come up with some fun Halloween items for lunch or dinner? Here are some fun ideas to get your creative juices flowing while you are planning your menus.

Ghost sandwiches

The best way to make these is with all white ingredients – think of things like turkey, swiss cheese, white bread, miracle whip, etc. Make the sandwich like you normally would, and then use a large, ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut it into a ghost shape or cut the sandwich with a knife. You could even use a small amount of ketchup or other condiment to draw eyes and a mouth on your ghost.

Bat and Cat cookies

The easiest way to do these is to buy a tube of your favorite sugar cookie dough from your local store. Roll out the dough, and use a cookie cutter to cut them into bat and cat shapes. Bake the cookies like you would normally. While the cookies are baking, melt some dark chocolate. When the cookies are cooled, brush the chocolate over the top to create “black” cats and bats. If you are feeling very creative, consider using red or green candies or sprinkles to give your animals creepy looking eyes. Allow the chocolate to harden, and keep cookies in a cool place to prevent them from melting.

Pumpkin Wraps

Take a tortilla and spread it with your favorite orange ingredients – pimento or cheddar cheese, slices of ham, orange peppers, etc. all work well. Roll the tortilla tightly to create a wrap, and then cut into half inch slices (you may need to use a toothpick to hold the wrap slices together, consider getting the decorative ones in green to be the “stem”). Lay slices on their sides, and using small pieces of veggies or cheese to create the eyes, nose and mouth on your pumpkin.

Pumpkin Pizza

Spread your favorite pizza dough or ready-made crust with sauce and cheese. Then, using pepper slices and pepperonis, create the ridges of the pumpkin and the face of the jack-o-lantern. Bake as usual and serve.

Graveyard Dirt

You can make this dessert in one large pan or individual cups, depending on the size of decorative tombstones you can find. Start by crushing an entire package of chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos) and layering a portion of them in the bottom of the cup/pan. Combine ½ cup of butter, 8 oz of cream cheese, 1 cup of powdered sugar and ½ teaspoon of vanilla and set aside. In a separate bowl, combine 3 cups of milk with 2 – 3.5 ounce packages of instant pudding (your choice vanilla or chocolate). Fold in 1 12 oz tub of Cool Whip (again, your choice regular or chocolate). Then fold together the two mixtures. Layer a portion on your cookie layer, then continue layering pudding mix and cookies until all have been used. While you are creating your layers, you can consider hiding in some gummy worms or plastic skeletons so that bits and pieces poke at the top. Garnish the finished product with a couple of decorative tombstones and you have a creepy Halloween dessert.

Use these and your own ideas to create some fun and creepy Halloween meals!

Halloween Vampire Makeup

When will Halloween arrive! Its taking so long to get here. I am looking forward to terrifying the little ones out trick-or-treating. I wear my vampire gear complete with glued on fangs, special make up and a dark long cloak. And I am confident I resemble the real thing when I am done.

Just ask the numerous small ghouls, witches and monsters that came knocking on my door last year. I paid a high price for my fun though, in the form of large handfuls of candy. But it was worth it. Halloween is just one day. I think everyone should get into the swing of it and enjoy the whole ghoulish experience. Are you ready for Halloween? Do you have your costume?

So what will you be? There are always people drawn to the Jason or Freddy costumes. I don’t know what it is about those flicks. What reason could there be for wanting to walk about as a movie serial killer? I don’t know. But like them, it’s the same costume every year for me.

You might think this is a bit unimaginative but I have it down to a science now. I’m sure like the fans of Freddy or the vampire ensemble I have, you are drawn to some specific area, be it werewolf or witch. Whatever character you are thinking about, your best bet for a huge selection is the internet. That’s where I get my fangs and make up.

You don’t have to drag yourself to the store and rummage about looking for something. You don’t have to worry about your favorites costume being out of stock or the costs being too high. All you need to do is check out the variety of sites choose a costumes and you would be on your way.

Home Decorating for Halloween

If there is ever a time of year when the ghosts and goblins roam the streets of the modern world, that time would be Halloween. Today's ghost and goblins are probably a little more frightening than at any other time in history but they are often tempered by a princess seeking frogs and a few witches and wizards along the way. Halloween is a great day to be a kid but can also be a great day for grown ups as well. Decorating for Halloween can be almost as fun as going out and begging for candy any day of the week.

Besides, having a well decorated home for this holiday gives you the perfect excuse to scare the evil out of some young ghoul or vampire that thinks he or she has the market cornered on frightening. The really cool thing about decorating for Halloween is that it is not one size fits all. You are perfectly free to find some very scary home decorations for this delightful holiday or take on a kinder, gentler, more kid friendly style of decorating. Either decision is yours and yours alone and should carefully monitor the scare-ability of your own children when deciding. You certainly don't want them afraid to come home.

For a more frightening Halloween scene you will probably want to use some strobe lights, frightening music and sound effects, dry ice in order to incorporate spooky fog, and plenty of spider web type netting in order to give those who dare approach your door bells a complete and thorough case of the willies. Doesn't this sound like so much fun? Coffins with headless straw men are also a great addition as well as skittering spiders and the occasional chainsaw or two. A glow in the dark hockey mask may also be a good choice. Bodiless heads suspended by fishing wire are also quite the highlight for a true and robust fright.

If your goal is to create a kid friendly Halloween atmosphere there are cheerful pumpkin decorations that can be found in many shapes and sizes as well as Casper the friendly ghost, Frankenstein piƱatas, and countless other fun party favors that are designed to bring entertainment and delight rather than terror and far. String pumpkin lights around the porch for added lighting and another friendly face in addition to keeping plenty of candles and lanterns lit nearby. Not all trick or treaters are older kids who appreciate a good scare so keep this in mind as the little ghosts, goblins, princesses, and super heroes arrive.

For adult gatherings all bets are off when it comes to home decorating for Halloween. There are all kinds of themes that can be followed from the incredibly zany and outrageous to the frightening or flamboyant. The biggest suggestion in these matters is to have fun at all times and bring the be the life of the party rather than having the decorations upstage your efforts. Far too many people spend more time concerned with how they will decorate their homes rather than wondering how they will decorate themselves for the festivities. If you find the perfect costumes all eyes will be on you and not your decorations.

Favorite suggestions for adult parties would include strobe lights, much like the frightening scene described above, low additional lights, perhaps black lights near the food and drink area of the party. More dry ice (if tolerable some people have difficulties with the smell particularly those with allergies or asthma so you may want to avoid this inside your home and leave it for the exterior). Bales of hay in the corner make excellent additional seating and can contribute to the harvest/autumn/Halloween atmosphere you are attempting to create. Just remember that the underlying goal is for you and your guests to have a great time. Have good food, good music, and good friends, and the decorations really and truly should be a secondary concern.

Halloween In Siberia – Sort Of

Live in another country and you’ll start to experience serious cultural differences. This is particularly true as I discovered with Halloween in Siberia.

Russian Holidays

I loved living in Russia and the primary reason was people. Russians love to celebrate and they are big into holidays. In Chita, Siberia, practically everyday was a holiday. During communism, Russia celebrated the worker with holidays such as bus driver day, teacher day and so on.

When the fun loving Russians dropped communism from the menu, they decided to keep the holidays and add new ones for the new political bent. While Oligarchs’ Day isn’t yet a holiday, practically everything else is. With the approach of Halloween, I was ready to go nuts and show them a little of the American spirit.

At the time, I was teaching roughly 12 classes a week on law and business at Chita State Technical University. This gave me the opportunity to put together a wing dinger of a Halloween party since the students would generally follow directions without question.

Accordingly, I announced to each class that we would be building a haunted house at my place and with roughly 150 students, it was going to be the haunted house of all houses. No student had any questions, but I should have noticed the blank stares.

The morning after making my announcements, the Dean of the University approached me. She had some rather pointed questions about Halloween.

Nobody had ever heard of Halloween and no, children didn’t trick or treat. After all, what kind of person would trick a child? Americans do this? Every year? And they try to scare the children?
Why?

The more we went back and forth, the more I started to wonder about Halloween. When I made the fatal mistake of bringing up the headless horseman, the gig was up. The Dean gave me that furrowed brow perfected by all administrators. There would be no haunted house on October 31st.

After all, October 31st was the guy who makes duplicate keys day!

Halloween Myspace Comments - How To Choose

Halloween is coming nearer. As the day approaches, everybody who wants to celebrate Halloween is thinking of ideas about dresses, parties, cards, celebration, and myspace comments. Believe me, for those who are active on myspace there is nothing more precious than to look for good comments to send to their friends. Let me tell you how to chose the myspace comments for Halloween.

Myspace Halloween Comment Selection-

Do not choose any comment that looks ordinary. Look for well made comment with proper color and font. If the design does not look scary, no use chhoosing that coomment. The colors, the graphics and the text all three should cause a heartbeat to skip because of some fear. After all this is Halloween. Try to choose a design that will be liked by your Friends. If they do not like a particular color, avoid that. The choice of design should be one, which is appreciated by your friends. After all you want to scare them.

Size of Comment-

I have noticed people sending large sized comments. When such comments are added in the profile, they distort the whole profile. They may also slow down the downloading of profile. This will one-day get your comment deleted. Send a comment of decent size, not exceeding three inches either way. The comment should not be very small otherwise it will get lost amongst other comments. Think of your comment as one amongst many. Will the profile owner notice it? If yes, send that comment.

Graphic or flash comment?

Most of the websites are offering JPG graphics as comments. Only one or two sites offer flash comments. Flash comments look better because of clearer color definition. Graphics may be little lighter in weight, but they have become common. Select flash comments and send. Remember that flash comments weigh more, so if weight is a criterion it is better to choose a graphic comment or graphic for Halloween.

Halloween Safety Tips and Suggestions

Most of my advice about Halloween safety for kids revolves around trick-or-treating. First things first, know what your children are planning to do. If they are going to a party at someone’s house, talk to the parents and make sure you know who is going, what will happen at the party, who will be supervising, and what time to expect your kids to return home. If your children are planning to go trick-or-treating, you need to sit down with them beforehand and plan out what route they will take.

General trick-or treating advice: avoid dimly-lit streets and parks, always travel in a group, carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing to alert passing motorists, don’t enter a strange house or car. You may also want to talk with your child about his or her Halloween costume. Make sure the Halloween costume is comfortable to walk in for several hours, provides necessary warmth, and is safe to wear. Perhaps they can bring along an extra pair of shoes if those wrapped mummy Halloween costume sandals become uncomfortable!

Lastly, talk with your children about your expectations for the time they are out and about, whether they will be at a Halloween costume party or trick-or-treating in a Halloween costume. Warn against vandalism, animal cruelty, drug and alcohol use, cars, and other dangerous situations. Some parents even provide their children with a cell phone to use in case of an emergency.

Halloween Safety for Adults for Halloween Costume Parties

Although the following advice may be common sense, I’ll share it with you, just to be on the safe side. Halloween costume parties can be a wonderful way to get all your friends together, dress up in ridiculous Halloween costumes, eat delicious food, and dance the night away. But parties can also end poorly, both for the hosts and for the guests. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

For Halloween costume party hosts, make sure that you have provided appropriate food and drinks for your guests. You need to be aware of any allergies or dietary restrictions, and take extra steps so that everyone has something fun and festive to munch or sip. Be sure to put your household pets in a separate room, away from the noise and energy of your Halloween costume party. Take down and put away any fragile or cherished items. Remember that a Halloween costume party can quickly become a high-spirited dance party, and you don’t want anything of yours to be accidentally knocked over or stepped on.

As for Halloween costume party guests, remember that you are a guest in someone else’s home. Be respectful of their furniture, pets, knickknacks, and everything else. Also, be careful how much food and alcohol you consume. No one wants to be remembered as the Wicked Witch who danced the fox trot on the dining room table at the neighborhood Halloween costume party!

Halloween Tips: How To Pull Off Tricks And Treats Safely

Boo! Ha-ha. Got you. Honestly though, Halloween can be a spooky time for everyone. Kids are scared of the un-known ghosts and goblins that possibly reside behind trees or in gutters while parents are scared of un-known people who are out and up to no good.

Halloween Ecards - How To Chose?

Halloween is fun. It is a day of fun. Everybody across all the age groups enjoys Halloween. On such a day, it is fun to send ecards. With so many ecards available, it becomes difficult to get ecards that make you feel good and give joy to the recipients. After all the ecards are supposed to spread joy. Let me tell you how to do this.

Get Free - with so much free content available on the net, it is no use paying for ecards search for websites that are offering free ecards.

Flash - In this age, to use static small JPG ecards looks little out of place. Look for flash ecards that have lot of movement in them.

Size- Don’t chose very small or very large sizes. Chose sizes that nicely fit in the screen. Your recipient will be able to view the ecard easily and enjoy it.

Music - Use ecards with scary music. The flash with music will add to the fun of Halloween.

Message - chose a service that gives space for putting your message and a notification to you that your ecard has been viewed.

Selection of ecards requires little search if you know what you are looking for.

The card size/weight should be small so that the ecard opens easily. The ecard should have a click to view in the beginning. Halloween offers you a grand opportunity to connect with all friends and family members. Send more than one ecard to most of them. The ecards are free. Why not send more? Halloween is fun. Ecards for Halloween add to that fun and make your day really enjoyable.

Halloween Family Fun

Halloween is a great family holiday. There are plenty of activities that the kids of all ages in your family can participate in, so why not get out of the house and join in the fun? Most cities will have plenty of options for Halloween fun in the month of October.

Trick-or-Treat

One of the most popular Halloween activities is trick-or-treating. If you are concerned about your kids heading out on their own on Halloween night, why not tag along? Don a costume yourself, and take the time to enjoy the scenery and everyone else's costumes. You might even get some candy of your own.

Deck the yard

And the halls, and yourself. If you choose to stay at home on Halloween night, why not make it fun for everyone who comes to visit you? Decorate your yard, entranceway, and yourself and get ready to enjoy the trick-or-treaters that come to call.

Costume parties

If you enjoy costumes, why not attend a costume party or host your own? This can be a great way for adults to have a more mature Halloween celebration, or just a fun way to allow the kids to enjoy their costumes for a little longer.

Haunted Houses

If you really want to get creeped out on Halloween, consider taking a tour through your local haunted houses. Most are designed to be gory and scary, so keep that in mind if there are little ones in your group. These attractions are usually quite popular, and are often open the entire month of October, so if you don't want to wait in line consider visiting them earlier in the month.

Boo at the zoo

If there is a zoo in your city, it might be worth checking to see if yours offers any special events in the month of October. Usually taking place on the weekends, Boo at the zoo usually allows your kids to dress up in costumes, receive treats, visit their favorite animals, and participate in fun activities.

Movie night

For movie buffs, some theaters will set up all-night horror film festivals. They often feature select cult classics like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, as well as others. This can be great entertainment for those who plan on staying up all night. Alternatively, if you want to stay home, consider having your own movie night at home with your personal Halloween favorites.

Haunted hayrides

For another traditional Halloween activity, consider taking a haunted hayride. Often hosted by local farms (quite possibly the one you pick your pumpkin from) these after dark activities include a spooky hayride, bonfire, and snacks and are usually appropriate for all age groups.

Research your ghostly neighbors

Nearly every town has an area or building that is “haunted” by some local ghost. Visit your local library or historical center to find out where these places are, and take your own local tour. In some areas, paranormal investigation teams will take tours out on Halloween to do some ghost hunting of your own.

Read a book

If curling up at home alone with the leftover candy is more your speed, consider reading a suspense/horror book. Your local library can surely recommend some good ones depending on your tastes.

Halloween always offers plenty to do if you take time to do it.

Halloween Games for Kids

While adults may be jumping on the Halloween bandwagon, first and foremost Halloween is a kid's holiday. Besides trick-or-treating and costumes, Halloween parties are one of the many activities that kids can look forward to each Halloween. If you are thinking of jumping in and hosting your own kid's party this year, one thing that you will need to think about is the games.

When planning kid's party games, keep in mind that many games will only have one winner. So be sure to play enough games that every child can be a winner, or consider providing second and third place prizes to help avoid hurt feelings. If you don't want to use candy for prizes, Halloween party favors and small toys also make great prize ideas.

Ghostly musical chairs

Almost everyone is familiar with the game of musical chairs, so you probably won't need a detailed expression of the rules. All you need is one chair less than the number of kids attending the party (so 9 chairs for 10 kids, for example). Cover the chairs with white sheets and paint some eyes and mouths on them to make them look like ghosts. Line the chairs up or arrange them in a circle. To play the game, play some music while the children walk around the chairs. When the music stops, the child left without a chair is out. Remove a chair, and keep playing until there is only one child left.

Dress the scarecrow

If you have some of dad's old clothing lying around the house, this is a fun game for kids. Divide the children into small teams, and give all teams some clothes for their scarecrow. Jeans or overalls, flannel shirts, boots, gloves, and a straw hat are typical, though you can use whatever you have on hand. One child in the team is the scarecrow, and has to stand still while the others of the team put the clothes on. The first team to complete a scarecrow is the winner.

Meet my mummy

For this one, you will again want to divide children into small teams and have one child volunteer to be the mummy (preferably a child who was not the scarecrow if you play both games). Give each team a roll of toilet paper, and have them wrap their mummy with it (you can also use rolls of streamers in Halloween colors if you would prefer). The first team done wins.

Pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern

Create a large pumpkin out of cardboard, or make one out of construction paper and pin it to a bulletin board. Paint or glue eyes and a mouth on the jack-o-lantern, leaving the area where the nose should be empty. Cut out several yellow triangles, writing the child's name on the front and placing a small piece of double-sided tape on the back. Blindfold children and have them attempt to pin the nose where it belongs. To make the game more difficult, spin the child in circles several times before having them pin the nose on.

Almost any child's party game can be converted to a Halloween game with a little creativity. Of course, leave plenty of time for snacks and the ever-popular costume contest.

Halloween Door Decorations Make Eerie Sounds

Many blocks of a neighborhood are decorated with all kinds of eerie things. As children wander from house to house with their parents by their side, they might come across several homes with doors that are making eerie sounds. When some children hear these strange noises for the first time, they make it very difficult for the parent to coax them to walk up the sidewalk to the house.

Some doors are so scary that children will refuse to knock on the door. Some older children might have to do it and yell "Trick or Treat" for them. The children might be staring at ghosts that are floating under trees. Some children in the group might be captivated by a large spider that is crouching in a huge spider web that has been expertly formed by a homeowner on the corner of the porch.

Parents are almost certain that the children are not thinking about candy at this point. They can see that the creaking door that made eerie sounds has had a dramatic affect on the children. The children might not recover from their rigid posture for many hours on Halloween night and the parents will have to avoid any other Halloween door decorations that make eerie sounds.

Halloween is normally a joyful event that brings out all types of ghosts and goblins into the streets. Children that walk with parents have probably already heard a speech about none of it being real. When doors make eerie sounds, some children are too young to understand this crazy logic and will hold tightly to the legs of parents and still refuse to go up another sidewalk. They might even rely on a big brother to bring them the candy that was being handed out at that eerie house.

Some children will not believe that Halloween costumes are not real until they remove a monsters mask and look the wearer directly in the eye. Some children are bothered by this small task on Halloween because some people are pranksters and have chosen to wear more than one mask on this Halloween. When the children remove the monsters mask they will be shocked to find themselves looking at an ogre with only one eye.

Some little ones are very saddened on Halloween because they see their favorite cartoon character with an arrow piercing their forehead. Other children might think it is quite funny to see some characters they know in love totally out of character. With these little quirks to people they can relate to a child is able to start seeing the jovial attitudes that surround Halloween.

Halloween Crafts for Kids

Many kids love Halloween. There are parties, costumes, and every kid's favorite – candy. Trying to keep kids entertained until Halloween night can require the patience of Gandhi himself. Here are some easy Halloween crafts that you can use to keep the kids entertained.

Puppets

Ghost puppets are easy to make and can inspire hours of creative play. Get a white handkerchief, black marker, and a rubber band. Drape the handkerchief over your child's middle three fingers, secure with a rubber band, and draw on eyes and a mouth with the marker. You can also put the cardboard from a paper towel roll and stuff the head with cotton balls if you want a more permanent puppet.

Lollipops

If you are planning on handing out lollipops as part of your treats for trick-or-treating, you kids can help you decorate them. Cover the lollipop with a tissue, tying securely with a rubber band or piece of ribbon. Use a marker to draw eyes and mouth on your ghosts and they are ready for giving.

Spider webs

Take 3 craft sticks and glue them together so that they make a star shape. Taking white or black yarn, weave it over one craft stick and under the next, working your way outwards from the center. When it is finished, glue down the end and attach a plastic spider. Your creation is now ready for hanging.

Candy Cauldrons

Find an empty plastic container and paint it black. You will also need to paint three small wooden balls black as well. Once everything is completely dry, glue the balls to the bottom of the cauldron. Add a wire handle if you would like, and fill your cauldron with your favorite Halloween candies.

Paint a pumpkin

Pumpkin carving is a bit messy and difficult, and can be dangerous if you do not want small children handling the knife. Instead, get some permanent markers or acrylic paint your pumpkin to look like a monster, clown, or other Halloween character. For kids, the smaller “pie pumpkins” or even the mini-pumpkins will work perfectly for this craft.

Paper plate masks

While your child may not be able to dress up in their costume until the day or evening of Halloween, you can easily create your own masks. Help your child cut eyes and breathing holes out of a paper plate. Punch a hole on either side to attach a ribbon or string to tie the mask on. Then you can allow your child to decorate the mask with crayons, marker, paint, or by gluing items to it.

Reusable treat bags

Purchase some reusable cloth totes or shopping bags as well as some Halloween-colored fabric paint. You can also look for iron-on transfers and stencils to make decorating easier. Allow your kids to decorate their own bag. If you do this a few days before Halloween, it will be dry and ready to go along when trick-or-treating.

A little creativity and you can come up with your own Halloween crafts for kids as you wait to celebrate this fall holiday.

Halloween Is The Time For Scary Costumes

It isn't Halloween unless you see people dressed in scary costumes. Sure, some parents won't let their children go out dressed as the reaper or any popular horror movie villain. But, there are plenty who do. Scary costumes are a fun way to get into the spirit of Halloween.

Halloween is usually associated with all things horrifying and scary. Some dress to confront their own fears. Others want to scare people. No matter the reasons, it is mostly done in a spirit of good fun.

If you do decide to dress in scary costumes you have a choice as to how elaborate you want to be. Do you want to simply don a mask and go from door to door or do you want to make your look as realistic as possible, complete with theater makeup and authentic clothes?

Here are some tips that will help you find or put together perfect scary costumes.

Decide on a Theme

Before you get started, you need to do some preplanning and make some decisions. Do you want to model your costume after a familiar character or do you want to create something on your own? You also have a lot of choices. Scary costumes come in all different forms such as ghosts, monsters, and villains from popular horror movies.

Find Your Costume

If you do decide to go with a familiar character you can either purchase the costume, borrow it, rent it, or put it together yourself using theater makeup and a little creativity. Check local costume shops, department stores, and ask around. If you are on a budget you may consider making the scary costumes yourself with items found around the house.

Make Your Costume

You have two main choices when it comes to making your own scary costumes. First, you can model the costume after a popular character. Second, you can create your own character based on your own imagination. If you do decide to model the character after something, make sure you get it is accurately as possible.

The Character

You'll also want to give some thought to creating the character. Think about the mannerisms, what they'll eat, they way they talk. Pretend you are that character for an evening. But only you can decide how far you want it to go. For example, if you are at a party, it might get tiring pretending to be the character the whole time.

Halloween Faq: Halloween Traditions Around The World

* Was Halloween originally a pagan or a Christian holiday?

Like the celebration of Christmas day, originally Halloween was a pagan festival rather than a Christian holiday. It was only around 10th century that the Roman Catholic Church established this holy day. This was initiated for purifying the spirits of the dead.

* What is the origin of trick-or-treating?

Trick-or-treating, a major Halloween tradition, is related to the "soul cake day" of Christian people, with a belief that the treat pacifies a mischievous spirit. Formerly, children who were trick-or-treating would vandalize houses that did not give them treats. They roamed around the neighborhood soliciting candy or other kinds of treats. This was became popular up to the 20th century.

It was in the year 1970 that the trick-or-treating tradition started to wane because of several rumors that some households were handing out harmful or poisonous treats to children. Today many parents accompany their children while trick-or-treating or organize private Halloween parties.

* Why is Halloween celebrated on October 31st?

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st because the Celtic people believed that it is the end of "season of the sun" and the start of "season of darkness and cold" due to winter. They believe that it is the time when evil spirits are most likely to roam the earth.

* Is Halloween celebrated on the same day around the world?

No. Halloween in some parts of the world may not even occur on October 31st. A number of countries celebrate Halloween on November 1 or 2. Other prefers to celebrate it at some other time, mostly during the fall or summer season.

* What countries celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is one of the oldest traditions and is celebrated around the globe. While many countries commemorate Halloween it is in North America and Canada where Halloween is most popular. Other countries that join in the celebration are Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Latin America, Spain, and Sweden.

* How did Halloween get started in the U.S.?

The first-ever recorded Halloween celebration in the United States occurred in Anoka, Minnesota, in 1921. That was the start of trick-or-treat, Halloween costume parties, and a series of activities depicting the essence of the celebration.

* Why do we carve pumpkins for Halloween?

Carving of pumpkins is descended from earliest Irish tradition. Originally a turnip was used instead of a pumpkin. According to some stories, it was believed to ward off evil spirits.

When the Irish people began to immigrate to America, they realized that carved pumpkins were more realistic than turnips, as well as easier to carve.

Halloween In Miami

Well, here we are again, Halloween time and so ghosts, goblins and gore seekers, rejoice for Halloween in Miami is here once more, and this time with a vengeance.

Young ones, teenagers and adults alike, excitement is mounting in anticipation of a day when we can all be kids again. There will parties everywhere, private and public, and if you want to enjoy yourself, as always, Miami is ready to oblige.

Yes, there is always a reason in Miami to have fun and Halloween season is not different. Halloween parties, spooky haunted houses and more will be open to the public and the odd unexpected ghost. Good wishes thus to the scariest kids without as much as a warning to stay off the sugar. Halloween is a time for excess, besides mom and dad will probably make sure the candies are wrapped, sealed, closed and eaten with parsimony. Make it a family thing; it’s a lot of fun. And if your kids are way too cool or too old to put on a costume, do what I do: set a table in your driveway, pull yourself a comfortable chair, pour the candies in a bowl on the table and enjoy the show. I am probably the only adult this side of the world who enjoys Halloween as much as the kids do.

The only problem this year is that pumpkins everywhere have had a really, really bad time. Blame it on the weather is what I have been told but as usual there will be plenty in the pumpkin pies section of your local supermarket, and perhaps this year I will be brave enough to taste one of them.

There are a whole bunch of events organized to amuse your little to as well. The Miami Seaquarium has a monster spash with fireworks and trick or treat stations.

The Metro Zoo has something planned where kids can enjoy safe trick-or-treating, prizes, costume contests and fun.

Or you may opt for a real splash by making it to the Viscaya (3251 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL) where $125 will buy you a ticket for the fancy evening at the palatial estate. (Oct 27, 8pm to 1 am)

Adults might want to check the “Pirates in the Dark” hosted by Adult superstar Jesse Jane, a party for those who like to dress up or down. Head to 1235 Washington Ave, Miami Beach at 11pm, Oct 31.

Music lovers will want to check out the Rock of Horror Party hosted at the cameo where an old movie theater’s resident ghosts will be officially invited to assist a slew of celebrities and other known people. (1445 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach)

All the insomniacs out there rejoice: The World Sounds Halloween Bash is open from 4am. Wear a costume and listen to the music in company of Monsters…

Talking about Halloween, how could I not mention Denis Rodman who doesn’t need a costume but will host a hot costume contest in two categories: Sexiest costume and most creative. Since I mentioned Rodman, I thought it superfluous to indicate that this is an Adult only event. The place: Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino (Miami’s newest casino and playground on Octover 26 at 9pm)

Halloween Decorations: 10 Pumpkin Decorating Tips

One of the most popular images around Halloween time is the colorful orange Jack-o-Lantern face. There are endless possibilities when designing a Jack-o-Lantern. They can be scary, happy, sad, weird, angry, silly, human or animal like. People love looking at carved pumpkins, and they are often the centerpiece of outside Halloween decorations.

While carving a pumpkin is relatively simple, there are a few things to keep in mind while you are hunting for that perfect pumpkin for your display.

1) Look for carvable pumpkins that have a strong stem that is firmly attached. To check for ripeness, pick up the pumpkin and thump it a few times. You should hear a hollow sound, which lets you know this pumpkin will be easy to scoop out. The pumpkin’s surface should be smooth and free of blemishes and discolorations.

2) Be sure to always carry your pumpkin from the bottom. DO NOT carry it by the stem, because the stem may snap, which speeds up rotting.

3) Store your pumpkins in a cool, dry place. Heat and light speeds up rotting.

4) Before carving your pumpkin, wash it in a solution of 1 teaspoon of chlorine bleach and 1 gallon of water. This prevents mold.

5) Draw your pumpkin pattern on a piece of paper first, that way you can make easy revisions without damaging your prize pumpkin. If you can’t come up with your own design idea, you can always use ready made stencils or templates (these can be found online or inside a pumpkin carving kit). Cut the pattern out and secure it on the pumpkin surface with masking tape. Use a carving knife (or poking tool) to create pinpricks, or marks, to score the design for you to use as a guide.

6) To cut the actual design out of the pumpkin, use a small serrated saw for best results. Carve with a back and forth sawing motion. Go slow. NEVER use a straight-edge razor, because this can damage the pumpkin and cause possible injuries.

7) Consider buying a pumpkin carving kit to save time. Pumpkin carving kits contain all the tools you’ll need to create great looking Jack-o-Lantern faces.

8) If the thought of carving a real pumpkin sounds messy or like too much of a hassle, you can opt to buy an acrylic craft pumpkin. These look pretty real and are easy to carve too. Best thing about these acrylic pumpkins is that you can reuse them year after year!

9) Once you’ve carved your traditional pumpkin face, think about mixing things up a little with some other interesting designs like: black cats, witches, ghosts, moon and stars, popular movie characters, or drilling holes in your pumpkin that form an unexpected pattern.

10) While one pumpkin on the porch or front yard is great, imagine how it will look if you use several small to medium sized pumpkins. Displaying several pumpkins together creates more drama for neighbors and trick-or-treaters.

Ideas for Halloween Face Painting

Halloween is fun both for adults and young kids. If you've enjoyed painting pumpkins with your family and friends, you will surely enjoy face painting during this special occasion. You can scare the wits out of young kids and even adults if you paint scary faces once they knock on your door and ask the same old line – 'trick or treat'.

Here are some excellent ideas for Halloween face painting.

Pumpkin – you can paint a pumpkin on both sides of your cheeks. The pumpkin should be bright orange in color. The nose, mouth, and eyes can be painted in black. The outline and ridges of pumpkin design should be light grey.

If you want, you can make your whole face look like a pumpkin. The base should be orange and for the cheekbones, you have to apply a darker shade of orange. Make a triangle shape over your eyes and paint it black. For your lips and nose, you must paint it black as well.

Skull – the skull design should occupy the whole face. The base should be white and after you've painted the white paint, you can paint a bright red color for the lips. Make an outline of fangs on both sides of your mouth in light grey. The fill should be white and the tip should be painted in red so that it will look like blood. Use smoky grey for the eye lids and exaggerate your eye brows with sweeping strokes in black color.

Bat – make a bat design over your whole face. Just like the skull design, use white color as base. Above your nose and your forehead, paint the face of the bat in black and light grey for the eyeballs. The body of the bat should be painted over your nose ending at the nostril's base. Use different shades of black for the body. The wings cover your eyes and your mid-cheek. You can paint some definitions by using light grey on the wings. Over your lips, paint exaggerated curls upward to the corners. Use your imagination and you can create a realistic bat design.

These are just four great ideas that you can use. if you want, you can obtain other painting ideas online. There are many helpful websites you can visit to get some great ideas for Halloween face painting. Visit the different sites and if you're diligent with your search, you can find pictures of the designs. With a picture to refer to, it will be a lot easier to paint because you already have a clear idea of what the design will look like. Find a design that you like so that it will be easier to paint.

You can even paint your own face if you like, but this will a bit difficult. Get the whole family involved and paint each other's face. But before anything else, you have to buy face paints, paint brushes, and other painting materials that you will need. You can purchase them in paint stores or in craft stores.

Celebrate Halloween with your family and friends. Give life to this special occasion by doing some face painting. Just remember to wash the paint off your face before you go to sleep to avoid any irritations. Have fun this Halloween season by painting your face in different designs.

Cookies of the soul – Halloween spookie cookies and the Ripper sighting

Joey has what her mother called "the gift." It was a set the Joey with never up that night had argued. At the age of nine the "Gift" to the fullest was in use. It was your birthday tonight. Was a Halloween baby though her mother said to Joey that was why your "gift" was so prominent, believe that is why. At least their "gift" had always shown only kind spirits or passive ones.

At the age of nine, she had great grandmother to visit in the rose garden. She would sit for most of the afternoon in the small garden in front of Joey's House. They would talk about all these things, loved by Joey and that interested he, himself and then great Grandma talked about Joey's mom's health and the strange drugs that she had him write down. She knew that her mother would make things better.Joey listened to their Muttering. Then his mother said she believed him although his great-grandmother two years had passed away two years before these events.

Once in a while you see someone in the barn window would just over, but nothing even close to what this evening was to show on  her 21st birthday, and was in London. Everyone was right, it was a fairy tale land royalties, castles, towers and the best shopping she had ever seen.

Fairy tales always seem to have their dark side though and this city was apparently no exception to the rule. She saw it tonight. It was about a half hour until midnight, and not much of a partier, stepped out to reflect from their hotel for a walk even though their body was ready for bed to be coming. The lanterns were a soft with a hazy glow, and the famous London fog rolled in slowly. Thinking about the events of the fast past day, a shape from the corner saw your eye. She saw move slowly.

Across the street at a London light was a man with his back to her. She kept at a distance as she did not want the sharp clip of their steps to rotate it to give them away. Then she noticed Joey, hat, gloves and short cape. It was at this moment, she saw a Vision. Their body looked relaxed. Then she noticed his doctor bag in his hand. How strange. She wondered if he was a famous doctor to some King.

With a start, she recognized that he had quickly turned in her direction. This was not a reasonable person's face. It could feel smart, precise, cold and crazy before you could know. Slowly he crossed the road before looking both ways for horse and carriage. With that natural gesture of checking traffic he was unaware. It was as if he was in a trance. At the moment he began walking toward her. She was waiting for him to disappear, but it had not yet happened. She went backwards past a wall around it until she noticed, it comes time for her to leave. She saw the man's eyes for blood, precision, performance and the thrill of flight pleasure. The things that you don't actually seee until the last moment, when the cold, clean scalpel appeared in the other hand. It seemed strange.

Her cry felt helpless and forsaken. Her eyes opened, and it was gone. She ran to the hotel in absolute hysteria and got under her covers and kept repeating what her mother said, however smaller than you it was. Her mother told her if you are little, that, if ever, something you saw, what you just saw repeat "It's just a shot of energy in the dark, a shot of energy in the dark, a shot of energy in the dark...""in the dark."

I have many warm memories of Halloween as a child... dressing up in costume, fun parties, candy, collecting for UNICEF and especially being treated.

On Halloween the world transforms into a magical landscape of haunted houses, creepy Creepy-Crawly things, spirits, pumpkins and the soft light from Jack-o-lanterns.

So as you imagine a very young child the holiday?

Strengthen work with the child and has limitations, experience increase. Small children their attention spans are short, they are curious and eager to learn. So keep activities, short and plentiful.

All your senses engage Halloween as a holiday that has much color. It further brings leaves, orange pumpkins and the blackness of the spooky nights, bats and other creepy crawlies above, fall.

The smell of sweet cider and burn candles in Jack o lanterns engage sense the smell.

Ghostly cry and mysterious bumps in the night fill the soundtrack of your scary Halloween Party as you play the theme from the Adams family just to keep things spooky.

And, of course, Halloween without isn't treated! Switch the TV and all that is bad news these days seem to hear. Economic terms the United States saw such a downturn as the rest of the world in decades. With the global economy problems from corrupt Bank officials, Crooked, scandalous politician, growing unemployment, riots on energy issues and peace in the world or a missing. Certainly there are other reasons contributing to the economic struggle of the world, and it seems, we see not total resolution and financial utopia anytime soon. Holidays are completely become commercialized. Christmas is the vacation first comes to mind when it comes to spending money and actually happening Halloween second to be commercially successful holiday in the annual roster.

Christmas and Halloween in the same sentence? Concerning the issues it is very possible to speak, your hard-earned dollars together. Christmas, a religious holiday, obviously greatly developed since its inception. Halloween has experienced very similar changes. For Halloween we the same to do for our homes, only we hide and joy the neighborhood with Creppy, Creepy-Crawly decor. At Christmas we spend a little extra special clothing for some, perhaps wouldn't an outfit we usually carry except on special occasions, but on Halloween costumes so we buy family and friends detects may not even us.The two holidays have one thing in common however, and this is money auszugeben.sowohl Christmas as the Halloween can be costly annual events for consumers.

Comparison of Christmas and Halloween during a bad economy raises many questions. Can the average household afford to spend as much as you last year? Do we really need more decorations? Can we get some gifts to eliminate? Halloween seems closer travelers keep everywhere take the first holiday be affected. The largest commercial includes Christmas, easily fixed during family gatherings and religious celebration. It is a time of year that everyone can enjoy from religious background regardless. It is a complete holiday with generations of traditions and family get-togethers. Halloween is a holiday fun. A spooky night scary dƩcor and costumes.Children sing, eat sweets and study of local haunted houses and seasonal Attraktionen.Erwachsene take also parties dressed in costumes, masks and makeup to enjoy. Obviously, the budget for Halloween has much more room for customization.

Halloween costumes possible purchased or homemade. A great costume must really isn't much cost and we have all at least some creativity within. Decorations do not have to be made in a factory, some of the scariest institution in public display every year is home made low budget decorations for households who celebrate Halloween can be easily made without compromising on the holiday. The problem is that when the Halloween season at not celebrated the economy shuts down the Halloween retailer of Halloween goodies, tricks, treats, scary dĆ©cor and costumes can feel the pinch, but I think it's safe to say it can thrive just not as big commercially as it has in the recent past.

How much do you know about Halloween?

How much do you know about the spooky holiday of Halloween? As you probably know Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October, and the name Halloween descending from the old name Hallows Eve, the night of the dead. This is why children and adults alike dress as spooky characters like ghosts, goblins, vampires, monsters, witches and something that goes bump in the night.

It is also said that that this night dedicated to the dead, means that there are more spiritual energies, so that it a more receptive night to dead contact and contacting the living to the dead.

Halloween is an American celebration, often as so that it you know perhaps surprise it is Celtic pagan harvest festival Samhain in Ireland than that. Halloween was exported to America, not until the 19th century when many Irish folk emigrated.

The Celts celebrated their harvest festival because all the hard work of harvest of crops was over at the end of October. They saw to shorten Halloween rather than marking time, as they would in the day and night during the darkness and cold of the winter season.

Many Christians to prefer to celebrate of the following day, all Saints Day 1st November (also known as ' all hallows ' and 'All souls day') to avoid this is in conflict with their religious convictions." The word hallow means justifies in old English ', to get rid of sin". All is holy day as a day of kindness.

Halloween and the celebration have now been distributed to most of the Western world. However, the old Halloween importance has been lost and now the theme is fun and Spookiness. Halloween now is a festive holiday to dress up and have a nice time, perhaps to go ' trick or treatment of ' or to a spooky Halloween party. For some, halloween is a time to get yourself or maybe to scare BOO!

Kids Halloween party plan

Games are always the core for kid's Halloween parties. So this is a good time to promote the kid's imagination by you using their own ideas in making their own games. It allows the children to share fun with you. Ask suggestions from your kids, how they will be in the party you want and let them take part in party preparation.

Halloween is always the best time to enjoy and share all the festive ideas to have you with your children in mind. Implement all your ideas in the correct schedule, keep kids Halloween party, the children, the eerie feeling to make a scary, buy mascara for all the small 'monster' that way the party will have enough ghostly or scary elements.

Serve goodies that spookily and mix your chilled drinks in a boiler that makes it look a caldron used by a witch. The scary party theme more accents, dimming your lighting, or better yet, use some dark colored candles for lighting the room some Halloween tunes can add Spookiness. Wear something black with black Cape matched.

Plan games that will make the children stay and encourage movement during and use their imagination. For instance... after skeleton parts reassemble a game of skeleton search, can be very difficult for you. There are many available skeleton toy of plastic or rubber, you can buy in the toy shop. The children, feel that to make the "world of the living dead" for this moment.

Kids Halloween parties should always be inviting. To create a creepy party atmosphere provide an invitation that is somehow related to the type of party you want to have. You can use parchment paper, or like most people now a days, you can make invitations directly on your computer.

Spooky writing can be very effective with some drawn cut out spooky night crawler animals glued to your invitation. Just remember, sending invitations a few weeks in advance and one RSVP that show the number of guests in full attendance to keep track.

If your party takes place in late at night or at the afternoon, have a parent or guardian for each of your young guests to be safe. Also include a companion to the adult food for the children. Make it look appealing, as they are also part of the party activity.

Always remember, that you are having a kid's Halloween party, are so to provide for emergency cleanup always have paper towels to hand any mess.

Holding a children's Halloween party can be one of the most creative, fun parties you will ever host.  It may take all the patience you have for a full hands on experience enjoying your children with the decoration and refreshments and make sure to allow the party to let you enjoy yourself!
